In our games (in our world, I guess ^^), as we can have 1, 2 or 3 diplomatic actions each turn (depending on our current Tech. Level), we already apply some home-made rules :
1. Grant the independance: as a action of Diplomatic phase, a kingdom can announce its protection on another smaller kingdom. But this protection has a price : 25F per territory in this kingdom and per turn (to a limit of 3 turns) if the kingdom is a neighbour, and twice this price if the kingdom is not a neighbour. This protection is impossible if the kingdom has another religion (see my own module about politic, culture and religion). Note : you cannot attack the country you protect without losing immediately the 5HP (3 for same religion +2 for the surprise) AND offering 1 turn CB to all its neighbours (which really count if one of its neighbours is a human player ^^).
2. Warning: you can warn any player you want for 100F (which go to the bank) per turn (for a maximum of 3 turns, i.e. 300F); it will give you a CB against this player if he declares war (diplomaticaly of not) to one of your neighbours, whatever the size of this smaller kingdom.
3. Defender of the Faith: you can pay 200F (or 300F for two turns) and announce to everybody that you are the Defender of you own religion (Catholic, Orthodox, Shiite, Sunnite or Pagan). It gives you automatic CB (for one or two turns, depending of your announcement and the price you pay) against any player of another religion attacking a kingdom (even non playable kingdom) of your religious community (see my own module about politic, culture and religion).
4. Private loan: you can (openly or secretly) loan money to whoever you want to a desired percentage; don't forget to note this percentage and the turn when you want the money back (it can be a rent turn by turn, or a single lump-sum payment); any disruption in this payment offers a CB to the creditor (this CB last as long as the money is not refunded).
5. Vassalage: I am still working on it... If you protect another kingdom (of your own religion), after a royal wedding (princess card, here you are) or a victorious war (after which you chose to grant its freedom and its independance instead of annexing it), you can receive 50% of its taxes every turn. You gain a CB against anyone who attacks this kingdom, but you have to really protect it against players and barbarians (the vassal still keeps its own soldiers). If you don't, you lose HP either. This 5th point is not clear yet and we have to try it several times to see if it is really usefull and immersive.
Traduzione in italiano...
Nelle nostre partite, dato che possiamo avere 1, 2 o 3 azioni diplomatiche ogni turno (a seconda del nostro attuale livello tecnologico), applichiamo già alcune regole fatte in casa:
http://www.medioevouniversalis.org/phpB ... 40&t=11798 ).
