The double WOODEN BOX

Messaggio da leggereda Veldriss il 11 dicembre 2015, 1:01

I also made a double wooden box, theoretically supposed to be the only case from the beginning, but then I preferred the cardboard boxes.

The initial idea was to reuse a box that already exists:

Some initial test to verify that the position of the components inside:

But then I preferred to build the box, so I prepared the design drawings:

A blacksmith built the hardware:

Messaggio da leggereda Veldriss il 11 dicembre 2015, 1:02

Material necessary? Always the same but cardboard Sp. 1.5 mm., additionally bi-adhesive ribbon, a roll of adhesive transparent PVC and a "plastificatore?? don't know the english word".

PROCEDURE:
the presses this time they are on a normal sheets of paper (more economic), they go therefore protected with the adhesive transparent PVC (all it takes is slightly cutting strips a bit more large of the zone to cover)
Immagine

Immagine

they make him pass inside plastificatore, so the PVC sticks in way uniform and the color it is more alive
Immagine

the pillboxes are prepared...
Immagine

the bi-adhesive ribbon is positioned on all the funds...

This time I chose the laminate thickness of 1.2 mm to make small boxes.
Here all the material just cut:

Here is a picture of the 2 experiments, in front of hot glue, PVA glue behind:

Here's what I did ... I made a template to support the 5 sides of the box:

I beveled the template to prevent it incollasse to 5 sides:

I attaches on the bottom of the template 8 paper tape:

Bases player from 1999 to 2010

Messaggio da leggereda Veldriss il 11 dicembre 2015, 1:09

Well, in 1999, the only thing that came to mind was to use the basics of polystyrene of boardgame "Samurai Swords":
Immagine

I changed the graphics of the panel by summarizing tables for a few rules:

And this was the result:

---------------

In 2009 I designed the wooden bases that a carpenter would build:

Meanwhile, the player panel had changed considerably and had been added a lot of information as well as the schema of of the game turn:

In 2010 I designed the new wooden bases that a carpenter would build:

A bit of spray paint:

Meanwhile, the player panel had changed again, more info but more clear and clean:

On the outer side of the panel there is the coat of arms of the Kingdom, the symbol of his religion and background matches the color on the map.
I used 3 plates laminated to create the player panel, double-sided tape:

Then I engraved with cutter, but the coating OUTSIDE ONLY!

The miniatures of army

Messaggio da leggereda Veldriss il 11 dicembre 2015, 1:10

Until 2007 I used the little tanks of RisiKo; then, when I decided to show the prototype to the public, I was forced to change it with something else.
During a convention I was advised to use the miniatures scale 1:72. I began to see some catalog of miniatures and I took advice from an online store to choose what to buy.
Immagine

I thought about it for a few weeks considering all the problems, the quantity and the cost to buy them.
In the end I chose the boxes of Italeri and Zvezda because, according to me, they had a better quality.
I joined several boxes to create every single army, in this photo you can see the armies in every single box and the French army lined up on the ground:
Immagine

Instead of color each army of one color, I decided to color them with a more realistic technique ... even if the costs are increased tenfold:

The miniatures of ships

Messaggio da leggereda Veldriss il 11 dicembre 2015, 1:12

Even for the thumbnails of the ships I've done a thorough search and I evaluated all the problems and the solutions ... first of all I made various miniatures of various shapes, sizes, materials, and I designed a wooden little base to support ships:

Here, an intermediate test assembly:

I prepared the flags:

And the sails:

SWORDS for random turns

Messaggio da leggereda Veldriss il 11 dicembre 2015, 1:13

I loved the mechanics of random turns, used for example in Samurai Swords (Shogun), so I bought 10 medieval paper knife and I have silkscreened with Roman numerals:
Immagine

The players each turn they draw a sword ... I added the open auction to win the first swords (the number of swords available at auction depends on the number of players, for example, for 5 players is only the first sword, for 9-10 players are available the first 3 swords).

THE TRADE: money

Messaggio da leggereda Veldriss il 11 dicembre 2015, 1:14

At "PISA GIOCA 2010" I knew Rhodry that she is helping me with some drawings of the game ... After the ANGEL (for more information on this click here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1195&p=2261#p2261), I asked her to help me with coins ... I thought using the florin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florin) as the currency exchange in the game because in the second half of the thirteenth century. it was widely used.

Here the original florin:
Immagine

Here are some initial drafts and some steps of work:
Immagine

And here a first draft of the final idea of coins:
Immagine

The first two coins are respectively the white "cross" and "head" ... I put the value on the cross... being forced to manage exorbitant amount of money I can't use the money system of that historical period:

1 gold florin = 20 "popolino" (big silver florin) = 40 "soldi"; also there was a little florin = 1/12 "soldo".

Instead of the original texts on the "cross" I have replaced the "FLORENTIA" with the value (1-5-10-50-100-500-1000) and on "head" I have replaced "S. IOHANNES B." " with the name of the game (MEDIO EVO UNIVERSALIS). The coins will also be different colors to differentiate the materials:

value 1 = copper
value 5-10 = iron
value 50-100 = silver
value 500-1000 = gold

I think they will be the same size if I will make the metal coins because I must pay for every different dimension of mold... 4 different dimensions + 7 different "cross" = 11 different molds.
If they have the same size I must pay only 1 "head" + 7 "cross".
Some examples:
Immagine

If I will make the plastic or cardboard coins I will surely make 4 different dimensions.
Current coins:
Immagine

Here below tests about new money for this prototype:

1° test
Immagine

2° test
Immagine

... and even coins are finished ... Despite some hitches, now I have coins PERFECTLY EQUAL to Rhodry's draw:

THE TRADE: historical research and calculations

Messaggio da leggereda Veldriss il 11 dicembre 2015, 1:16

Well, in 1999 I did a very quick historical research, looking some commercial maps of that period:
Immagine

Immagine

In 2011 I decided to delve into the historical research relating to trade, I asked for help in other forums and a friend graduated in medieval history: viewtopic.php?f=33&t=86&start=20#p3215

Then, both in 1999 and in 2011 I calculated all distances as the crow flies between different cities, this is the example of 1999: Immagine

In 1999, I did not use any modifier of any kind, both in distance...
Immagine

... and in prices
Immagine

To make the trading system more complex and varied in 2011 I put a lot of variables, both in the table of distances...
Immagine

... and in the table of price calculations:
